At Ignite Massage, we offer various types of massage including Remedial, Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports, Pregnancy, Dry Needling, Myofascial and Traditional Chinese cupping.
Remedial massage is widely regarded as a scientific and powerful form of manual soft tissue therapy, that effectively reduces your pain and restores function to your muscles, nerves, fascia and other connective tissues.
Relaxation Massage, sometimes referred to as Swedish massage, promotes general health and well-being, treats tension and anxiety, improves sleep and enhances a range of systemic body functions such as circulation. In relaxation massage a general full body treatment is performed using various styles of strokes.
Deep tissue massage targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. Our massage therapist uses slower strokes or friction techniques across the grain of the muscle. Deep tissue massage is used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain injuries, postural problems, or recovery from injury.
Sports massage is used to treat and prevent injuries, improve recovery, flexibility and endurance and enhance sporting performance. It includes manipulation of muscles, joint mobilisation and joint manipulation.
Pregnancy massage is used to support the primary care of pregnant women. Our massage therapist uses special techniques to position and support the woman’s body during the massage, and modifies techniques according to the special needs of our pregnant client. Pregnancy massage is used to reduce stress, decrease swelling, relieve aches and pains, and reduce anxiety and depression.
Dry needling is the insertion of fine filiform needles into areas of dysfunction that can be found in muscle or fascia. It works on several layers of the body’s system however, the easiest way to describe Dry Needling is to associate it with the body’s ability to heal itself. It is used, among other things, to encourage a mini inflammatory response that results in vasodilation, or increased blood flow to an area.
Dry Needling can be used directly into knotted muscles or areas of tightness. When applying Dry Needling, the needle is inserted into the knotted area, or trigger point and can be manipulated in various ways to achieve the desired outcome.
Difference to Acupuncture:
Acupuncture is based on esoteric principles that are found in Chinese and Japanese medicine models, where the individual is diagnosed due to imbalances in energy systems found within the body, regardless of whether it is of a musculoskeletal or systemic origin.
The difference between the two models is that Dry Needling uses physiological and scientific principles to guide diagnosis and treatment protocol, where as Acupuncture uses esoteric principles to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal and systemic conditions to restore “energetic” balance in the body.
Is Dry Needling painful?
Needling does not have to be painful to have a response. Individual administration of the needling will be applied according to the individual client.
Dry Needling aims to activate the neural pathways in the body by creating a twitch response in the muscle belly. This can be administered aggressively causing damage to the tissue, and thus being perceived as painful. However ,an equivalent response can be achieved without creating pain.
Cupping is a safe, traditional treatment that helps resolve chronic muscle tightness and pain faster than massage therapy alone. Cupping therapy is known to help activate the lymphatic system, promote blood circulation and is good for deep tissue repair.
How does cupping therapy work?
The cupping cups are strategically placed on meridian lines to remove the energy blockages to improve the flow of qi or body energy.
Myofascial cupping is a safe intervention into soft tissue by creating negative pressure or suction on the skin. When the pressure in the cup is reduced, either by heat or suction, it pulls up old non-circulating stagnant blood and sticky fluids from the treated area. Bringing these blockages up to the surface and away from the injury, restoring healthy free circulation and creating space for oxygen, living cells and nutrients for faster recovery.
